During this week, I started filming for my mockumentary. It was stressful to say the least, trying to find time where people are free so I can film their scenes and also trying to find the time to film extra bits incase I needed filler footage was difficult too. I decided to film any extra footage I may need first so I didn’t have to go out during the main bulk of the important filming I needed to do.
While finding time to film all of the characters roles in my mockumentary, I decided to make props. For example, in the Jerry and Julie shots, there is a stick mobile hanging in the background. I decided to do this as it gives a sinister element, this then contradicted Jerry when he said they weren’t a sinister group. I also thought this could be seen as funny because what normal person has a hanging mobile made out of sticks and red wool. I also made sure that you could see Jerrys shadow in the background, in my mind this gave it dimension and also added a dark atmosphere to his part within the cult.

The filming I wanted to complete this week will have to continue into next week as not everyone was free. Luckily, I managed to film Jerry’s role and Julie’s role at the same time due to them being my parents so that made it easier for me. Filming two of the interviews I need to do helped me get onto of my editing quicker so I allowed myself more time to perfect certain things. It also allowed me to start colour grading, which I didn’t think would help much in the beginning but really did give the mockumentary another vibe. For Jerry’s part, the footage was warm toned to begin with and I didn’t think that was fitting due to the shadow and mobile etc. So I decided to play around with the temperature, exposure and contrast of the shot.
